Michael is Manager R&D Innovation Programme Hydrogen of DVGW. He manages the programme with more than 35 projects since the inauguration of the Innovation Programm H2 in 2021. He is also the managing officer of the H2-Competence Cluster of the German Energy Business, in which the three energy research institutions - DVGW-EBI, DBI Group and GWI Essen e.V. are assembled. In his work, Michael covers the entire hydrogen value chain - from hydrogen production via hydrogen distribution to cross-cutting topics like skills for hydrogen.

In 1997 Michael and hydrogen touched base. Since that time, Michael was pursuing his professional life with hydrogen, from his doctoral thesis about hydrogen purification for fuel cell systems to his career as Technical Project Leader R&D for the Dutch company HyGear B.V. After 11 years with HyGear Michael joined DVGW in 2016. He represents DVGW at Hydrogen Europe Research.
