Additional value creation, more resilient supply chains, reduced dependence on raw materials, and a measurable contribution to climate protection: The circular economy is a strategic driver of growth for Germany as an industrial hub. The Federation of German Industries (BDI), together with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and companies across the circular economy, has for the first time examined—from a cross-sector industrial perspective—why the circular economy is indispensable in the face of ecological, economic, and geopolitical challenges, and what conditions must be met for its long-term establishment in industry. The study also analyzes the effects of circular approaches on individual sectors, including the energy industry.
The study “Growth, Competitiveness, and Resilience: Opportunities of the Circular Economy for German Industry” shows that the circular economy is worthwhile for the energy industry. In particular, selected R-strategies enable higher margins than traditional new production while simultaneously tapping into new customer segments. The key now is to consistently translate this potential into industrial-scale implementation and economically viable applications.
As part of the Deep Dive Energy, the current hurdles, future challenges, and opportunities for the textile industry identified in the study will be presented. In addition, experts who contributed to the study will explain which specific R-strategies are particularly promising for the sector.
