The presentation shows how the heat transition is shaped between climate targets, security of supply, and regional strategies, and what role hydrogen plays as an energy carrier. Using North Rhine‑Westphalia and Bavaria as examples, different approaches are illustrated from the perspectives of municipalities and companies.
The presentation also outlines the content, strengths, and objectives of the Competence Network Environmental Economy NRW (KNUW). As a key actor for knowledge and technology transfer in environmental innovations, KNUW connects companies, research institutions, universities, associations, economic development agencies, and political decision-makers in North Rhine‑Westphalia. It strengthens the environmental economy, promotes innovation, and creates formats for exchange, visibility, and cooperation—from dialogue events and trade fair appearances to international market development. In doing so, the network makes a significant contribution to highlighting the role of the environmental economy as a driver of the heat transition and hydrogen-related technologies, while supporting regional transformation processes.
