Plastics are an important part of our lives and our economy, present in all areas of life and often difficult to replace. When they become waste, however, they must be treated properly and recycled to the highest possible quality. In this context, in addition to mechanical recycling, chemical recycling is also repeatedly discussed, which is said to offer both the possibility of eliminating pollutants and the potential of using waste that is difficult to recycle or heavily contaminated. In the study commissioned by the Federal Environment Agency, the potential of chemical recycling was examined, and a comparison was made with energy recovery and mechanical recycling.
