The German Society for Membrane Technologies (DGMT) was founded in 2000 as a non-company specific professional association following the initiative of companies, institutions and interested professionals from various fields of work. At present, more than 100 members support and assist in the use and dissemination of membrane technology in Germany.
New opportunities for separating substances have been opened up by a variety of filtration processes in recent years. Due to their effective and energy-efficient capacities, membrane processes are among the key technologies of the 21st century and play a pivotal role in the protection of climate, environment and resources. The DGMT aims to demonstrate the variety of creative and innovative membrane applications and processes necessary to achieve the environmental and climate goals. As a case in point, the DGMT working group on micro pollutants and the DGMT working group on the contribution of membranes to climate protection and mitigation of climate change impacts.
Membrane technologies can benefit greatly from the transformations needed to address climate change. Membranes and membrane processes have the potential to enhance processes for energy transformation, storage, or production in general. Membrane and module production advancements can also enhance energy/resource efficiency. The DGMT working group 'Membranes for Climate' addresses these topics.
The growing spread of micro pollutants that are harmful to the environment and health in surface waters and groundwater, especially multi-resistant germs, presents a new obstacle for wastewater treatment and water treatment. Hybrid membrane processes have the potential to eliminate micro pollutants. In addition, membranes represent a safe barrier against multi-resistant germs and microplastics. The DGMT working group 'Micropollutants' deals with these questions.
The contribution of membranes to climate protection, mitigation of climate change impacts, and reducing emissions to the environment will be the major driver of membrane technology growth over the next decade(s). We are excited to present the latest research and industry trends and would like to invite you to join us in our effort to accelerate action.
