Both the German Packaging Act and the draft of the future EU Packaging Regulation provide for highly recyclable packaging to be financially rewarded (eco fee modulation). In order to avoid greenwashing, it is crucial that packaging can not only be recycled in theory, but actually in practice. This event provides an overview of the current practice of sorting and recycling packaging subject to system participation in 2022/2023, when it enters the intended disposal channel in Germany (yellow bin/yellow bag, used glass, used paper). The results were determined by means of surveys and serve as a scientific basis for the German minimum standard for measuring the recyclability of packaging subject to system participation.
