Soil and building rubble from construction and demolition work represent the largest group of waste in Germany in terms of volume. In 2021 there were 221 million tonnes (for comparison: municipal waste totaled approx. 51 million tonnes). The disposal of soil/construction rubble mixtures and contaminated soils is challenging in terms of environmental and resource protection, reuse and landfill space requirements. Because large quantities continue to be dumped. This is where floor washing systems like those from gbav – Gesellschaft für Boden- und waste recycling mbH in Berlin come into play. Since it went into operation in 1997, over 5.8 million tons of hazardous mineral waste and 1.2 million tons of street sweepings from the Berlin and Brandenburg area have been treated here. A large part of it can be recycled.
