Green hydrogen will play a key role in the environmental and circular economy due to its versatile function as an energy carrier, storage medium and feedstock. As an ideal complement to electrons across the energy system, hydrogen can contribute to defossilization in various sectors, thereby preserving and protecting our environment. Nevertheless, a number of challenges still need to be overcome before hydrogen and its derivates can realize their full potential within the energy system and in the environmental and circular economy.
