Three presentations on textile recycling and the relevant processes (mechanical, thermo-mechanical and chemical), followed by a Q&A session. The speakers include Lindner Recyclingtech GmbH, EREMA Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen and Fraunhofer Umsicht.
Fraunhofer Umsicht: „Closed-Loop Recycling of Mixed Polyester-Based Textiles"
Turning challenging textile and polymer streams into high-quality secondary raw materials. Fraunhofer UMSICHT presents a new chemical recycling technology for mixed textiles – including fabrics, clothing, footwear, fibres and nonwovens. The thermochemical process converts synthetic fibres into base chemicals that can be used to produce new synthetic fibres. It can handle complex fibre mixtures (e.g. PET, PA), foams (e.g. from shoe soles), automotive interior components (e.g. headliners) and fibre‑reinforced composites. The technology tolerates impurities and contamination and recovers high-purity monomers (e.g. TPA) and other chemical building blocks to be directly used in production processes. As an example, Fraunhofer UMSICHT presents the EU-Project AUTOLOOP, that comprises several key technological innovations for the complete recycling of polyester-based (PET-based) textiles, which are being further developed and validated by the project partners.”
