Dr. Hans-Werner Theisen is a Civil Engineer who specialized in Water Resources Management and Hydraulic Engineering. He worked at the Universities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart as a research assistant and an assistant professor for 8 years and rounded out his scientific career with a PhD in Civil Engineering. Between 2000 and 2003, he was employed as a consultant in the private sector before his assignment with GIZ in 2003. From 2007 to 2022 he directed GIZ Water Programs in Egypt, Peru and Grenada. Since 2023 he works as Senior Planning Specialist at the technical department “Climate Change, Rural Development, Infrastructure” in GIZ Headquarter.
Dr. Theisen is a specialist in modeling of hydrological processes and water management with international experience in project management in the water resource, drinking water and sewerage sector. He has been an advisor to ministries and public organizations in the development of national policies and strategies in the water resources sector; as well as in the strengthening of water sector organizations at the national and local level.
