The latest conflict in the Middle East has further intensified the already tense security situation, which is affecting the private sector in many ways. Risks to businesses threatening both cyberspace and the physical world. Following an arson attack in south-west Berlin in early 2026 and the subsequent power cut, for example, emergency generators for crisis situations have recently come into focus.
Legislators reacted some time ago to reduce the vulnerability of facilities vital to Germany’s state structure. The municipal waste disposal sector is also partly covered by European and national regulations. In addition to requirements for the physical protection of critical infrastructure facilities (KRITIS Framework Act), there are comprehensive cybersecurity requirements. The BDE has contributed to an industry standard (B3S) for municipal waste management. The panel will present the latest changes resulting from the so-called NIS2 implementation and provide guidance on protecting operational sites in cyberspace.
