Anja Schwetje, Dr. Ella Stengler, Steffen Walk, Bettina Kamuk

Info
About 1/5 of global CH4 emissions come from dumpsites & landfills due to uncontrolled decomposition of organic waste.
Any organic waste that is diverted cannot produce uncontrolled CH4, making separate collection a lever & a target.
Incentives such as Carbon Credits or ETS can support these systems & encourage proper management of organic waste.

A short presentation will give an overview of the topic’s background. Stakeholders will present as part of the panel discussion tools of climate financing. Since waste management and climate financing are not so well connected yet – the potential of considering emissions deriving from improperly treated waste vs. the saving on emissions through properly treated waste will be addressed.
