Professor Mait Kriipsalu

Mait Kriipsalu is a professor on Water Protection and Waste Management at Estonian University of Life Sciences, Chair of Rural Building and Water Management. He was graduated as an engineer on land reclamation, and received PhD from Sweden. Since mid-nineties, he has been teaching and researching various issues of water and wastewater treatment, waste management and biotreatment, incl compost quality and certification, landfill mining, microbial methane oxidation etc.

About 1/5 of global CH4 emissions come from dumpsites & landfills due to uncontrolled decomposition of organic waste.
Any organic waste that is diverted cannot produce uncontrolled CH4, making separate collection a lever & a target.
Incentives such as Carbon Credits or ETS can support these systems & encourage proper management of organic waste.
