With the new EU Waste Framework Directive (EU) 2025/1892, which came into force on 16 October 2025, it is now clear that all Member States must introduce Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles by mid-April 2028 at the latest. The aim is to draw on successful models from other material streams – and to learn from past mistakes.
A functioning circular economy requires an intelligent and fair framework for producer responsibility.
Key topics discussed during the panel event in relation to EPR legislation include
- the role of manufacturers
- EPR system operators (Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs))
- registration bodies
- advisory boards
- the role of waste disposal operators
- the role of collection operators
from the perspective of textile manufacturers and the recycling industry.
